A quick worked example
Old meter: 1,200 on Sep 10, removed at 1,300 on Sep 25. New meter: installed at 0, reads 150 on Oct 10. Total 250 kWh × 3 = 750. At an Oct 1 boundary without a reading, segment-based estimation gives 160 kWh / 480 before and 90 kWh / 270 after.

How is this calculated? Limits and assumptions
- Meter readings are time boundaries: use [opening reading date, closing reading date), excluding a full extra day at the end. This differs from rent’s inclusive lease dates.
- Without replacement, usage is closing minus opening. With replacement, add old-meter removal minus old opening and new closing minus new installation. Never subtract an old opening from a new closing. Without a boundary reading, allocate by elapsed days within each meter segment.
- Cost = usage × manually entered rate. Round total and the first part to cents, then subtract the first part from the total for the second part. Time allocation is an estimate, not an official daily consumption rule.
- MOI rules apply to newly signed residential leases from 2024-07-15; older leases can opt in by agreement. Per-kWh charges cannot exceed the current bill’s average rate. Non-kWh charges cannot exceed the bill’s total. Unallocated outside common-facility electricity cannot be added separately.
- The landlord must provide relevant bill information. Use the rental unit’s actual bill, not a top tariff tier or this sample rate. This tool does not check multi-unit totals, common-area allocations, different rates across two bills or Taipower tariff tiers; calculate each bill separately when needed.
NT$ results are displayed as whole dollars; calculations retain cents. Rates and meter usage keep necessary decimals.
Estimates only. The parties’ agreement and applicable law prevail.
How this compares with HouseHu
The product retains meter readings, electricity allocations and corrections. This page only calculates entered readings; it does not query Taipower or establish legal charges. Review bill periods, allocation rules and final move-out utilities before confirming an actual bill.

Frequently asked questions
Is an elapsed-day split actual electricity usage?
No. It assumes a usage pattern for estimation. Actual consumption can vary; reconcile against measured readings and the bill.
Can a landlord use the highest summer tariff as a fixed tenant rate?
Under the new per-kWh rules, check the rental unit’s current bill average, not an arbitrary top tier. Review the lease’s applicability and primary government information.
